In 2008, Guillermo Álvarez Arias started a new company dedicated to the manufacture of oak barrels, which were used to age liquors nationally and internationally.
It was during these years that Guillermo developed a passion for the art of aging different liquors and a special affection for Colombian oak.
In 2010, he crossed paths with Carmenza Monsalve, a traditional coffee maker from the region, igniting a love story as rich and complex as the coffee they would one day create together. During a celebratory night, amidst the Caldas coffee plantations and sipping a rum, he imagined the possibility of adding these flavors and aromas to the coffee beans, a bold experiment that would connect him with his love of tradition and innovation.
Inspired by his passions, Guillermo embarked on a bold experiment. Drawing on his experience, he began infusing the coffee beans with special flavors through meticulously crafted oak barrels, the same ones that once held the finest Colombian rum. The result was simply extraordinary.
The coffee, with caramelized notes of aged rum and oak, was transformed into a gourmet masterpiece. A unique blend of flavors, smooth and irresistible, yet with a depth and complexity that alluded to its unique flavoring process. This was no ordinary coffee; it was a special drink for special moments.
Guillermo dreamed of sharing this experience with the world, that everyone could enjoy a coffee of the same quality that would generate the same feelings he dreamed of that night. Thus, Quercus Coffee was born, a coffee brand named after the plant that gives life to its aromas.
Finally, in 2023, Guillermo died at the age of 72 after several years of battling cancer. His legacy continues proudly, now led by his wife and children. Are you ready to experience this experience and feel the aromas and flavors on your palate that once inspired our founder?
